Drouin ranks second after the first day of the heptathlon with 3,571 points. The first day of competition was highlighted by her performance in the high jump. Drouin tied for the best mark in the event and broke her own school record with a jump of 1.87m. Her previous best was a mark of 1.84m, set during the heptathlon competition at the 2007 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship.
Drouin also competed in the 100m hurdles, shot put and 200m dash during the first day of competition. She recorded a mark of 14.14 in the 100m hurdles, 11.99m in the shot put and 25.02 in the 200m dash. Drouin, who won the 2007 BIG EAST Championship in the heptathlon, owned the second-highest score in the nation this season, totaling 5,890 points at the conference championship. Washington State’s Diana Pickler was the only student-athlete to record a better score during the 2007 season but is currently last of athletes still competing. Pickler was disqualified during the 200m dash and totaled 2,723 points during the first day of competition.
Kohn, who won both the indoor and outdoor 200m dash titles at the 2007 BIG EAST Championships, recorded a mark of 20.92 during the prelims. His time advanced him to the semifinal round, as the 28-man competition was cut down to 18. During the semifinals, Kohn recorded a time of 20.90 to finish 15th in the Championship.
Drouin and sophomore Michael LeBlanc will compete for the Orange during Friday’s competition. Drouin will wrap up competition in both the high jump and heptathlon.
