
Syracuse Freshmen Ogundiran and Gennaro to compete at 2007 FISA World Rowing Junior Championships

Syracuse University incoming freshman rowers Rachael Ogundiran and Mike Gennaro have been chosen to compete for the 2007 Junior National Team which will be competing at the 2007 FISA World Rowing Junior Championships scheduled for August 8-11 in Beijing, China
Ogundiran, who was selected to compete in the Junior Women’s Four and Gennaro, who was selected to compete in the Junior Men’s Eight will be representing the United States at the Championships.
A graduate from St. Mark’s School, Ogundiran joins the Syracuse women’s rowing team with experience at the national level. Since she first started rowing in 2005, Ogundiran has finished second in the women's senior four and women's junior pair at the 2007 USRowing Club National Championships, won the women's junior eight and finished third in the women's junior four with coxswain at the 2006 USRowing National Championships.
Syracuse men’s rowing freshman Gennaro comes to Syracuse from St. Joseph’s Prep, where he began rowing in 2004. In the last three years he has competed at both the national and international levels. At the International level, Gennaro finished second in the Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup at the 2005 Henley Royal Regatta and finished second in the junior men's four and fifth in the junior men's eight at the 2006 Canadian Henley. At the national level, Gennaro won the men's intermediate eight and finished second in the men's senior eight at the 2007 USRowing Club National Championships and finished third in the men's varsity eight at the 2007 Stotesbury Cup Regatta. Gennaro also finished second in the men's eight at the 2006 USRowing Youth National Championships, second in the men's varsity eight at the 2006 Stotesbury Cup Regatta, won the men's varsity eight at the 2005 Stotesbury Cup Regatta and won the men's varsity eight at the 2005, 2006 and 2007 Philadelphia City Championships.
The U.S. will have crews competing in the women’s single sculls, women’s double sculls, men’s quadruple sculls, women’s pair, women’s four, men’s four with coxswain, women’s eight and men’s eight. The team finished last year’s junior championship with a silver medal in the women’s eight competition and a bronze medal in the women’s single sculls.
