MADISON, WI – En route to garnering all-tournament honors, senior Joscie Kaup collected a team-high 13 digs, while sophomores Samantha Ainsworth and Kacie MacTavish each tallied a team-high five kills in Syracuse’s 3-0 loss to No. 11 Wisconsin Saturday night at the InnTowner Invitational hosted by the Badgers.
In three matches, Kaup collected 67 digs and set a new Syracuse single-match (five games) record with 40 digs against Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Ainsworth and redshirt-junior April Quigley both tallied a team-best 11 assists for the Orange. Senior Cheryl Cobbina and sophomores Sarah Morton and Annabelle Pellerin recorded four kills apiece.
Junior Brittany Kern collected three kills and a team-high 7 total blocks. Syracuse recorded 20 total blocks to Wisconsin’s 19.
“It’s very encouraging to see our team have more total blocks than Wisconsin,” said Pu.
Defensively, Kaup was complimented by eight digs from MacTavish and six from both Cobbina and Ainsworth. Sophomore Shanetha McLaurin contributed five digs.
The Orange led by as many as six points early in a tight game three before the Badgers closed out the match, 30-27. Pellerin paced the Syracuse offense in the third frame with three kills while Ainsworth and Cobbina added two. Kaup and MacTavish combined to post 9 digs and Quigley added six assists.
Syracuse (1-2) welcomes in-state rival Buffalo to Manley Field House for the season’s home-opener on Tuesday, August 28 at 6:00 p.m. The meeting with the Bulls marks the first opportunity for Syracuse fans to watch the Orange volleyball team via Orange All-Access, the athletic department’s multimedia package hosted by suathletics.com.
