Women's Basketball to Play at North Carolina
8/29/2007 1:00:09 PM | Women's Basketball
Syracuse faces its most formidable opponent of the non-conference schedule on Sunday, November 18 when the Orange faces North Carolina in the Women's National Invitational Classic at Carmichael Auditorium in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels will be a huge early test for the Orange, as UNC will be just seven months removed from a Final Four appearance. North Carolina is also coming off of its third consecutive ACC Tournament Championship.
Syracuse and North Carolina have only met twice in program history and the Heels won both. The last meeting came in 2000, when UNC was ranked 22nd and handed the Orange an 81-68 defeat.
Despite the loss of All-American Ivory Latta, the Tar Heels return three starters, including seniors Erlana Larkins (12.9 ppg.) and LaToya Pringle (9.7 ppg.) as well as junior Rashanda McCants (9.4 ppg.). North Carolina returns four others who played in at least 36 of its 38 games. The Tar Heels finished 34-4 last season.
Syracuse has already announced its first game of the season against Coppin State (Nov. 17). The Orange will continue to release their non-conference schedule on suathletics.com.
