Syracuse women's basketball players Sophie Burrows and Laila Phelia have been named to the 2025-26 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Women's Basketball Team, the organization announced March 24. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced April 14 (men) and April 15 (women).
The CSC Academic All-District® program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. Honorees from each district advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot, which separately recognizes honorees across four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Burrows, a junior from Lower Plenty, Australia, carries a 3.93 GPA as a psychology major. She was recently named the ACC Kay Yow Scholar-Athlete of the Year, adding the Academic All-District honor to a standout season that has established her as one of the conference's premier student-athletes. Burrows appeared in 32 games with 31 starts averaging 11.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game while helping the Orange to a 24-win season and the second round of the 2026 NCAA Tournament.Â
Phelia, a senior from Cincinnati, Ohio, holds a 3.53 GPA as a communications and rhetorical studies major. An All-ACC Second Team selection this season, Phelia has excelled on both ends of the floor while maintaining excellence in the classroom. She was second on the team in scoring with 13.7 ppg with 32 starts. She added 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game while scoring in double figures on 25 occasions. Phelia had 18 points in Syracuse's first round win over Iowa State in the NCAA Tournament.Â
The two selections mark the second and third time that Syracuse has placed a student-athlete on the CSC Academic All-District team since Felisha Legette-Jack became head coach joining Dariaunna Lewis in 2023.Â
College Sports Communicators (formerly known as the College Sports Information Directors of America) is a not-for-profit organization that serves as the leading organization for communications and media relations professionals in collegiate athletics. The CSC Academic All-America® program is one of the most prestigious academic honor programs in collegiate athletics.
