The Syracuse and Connecticut series tends to bring fans to the Dome. Four of the top five crowds in SU women's basketball history, including the top three, have come against UConn. A record total of 3,779 spectators streamed through the turnstiles to watch the Orange battle the Huskies in their last visit to the Salt City.
The Orange, which is receiving votes in both the Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll, tries to continue its winning ways in the Dome this season. SU's eight-game home winning streak is its longest since it won 10 consecutive home contest during the 1987-88 season. The hot steak can be contributed to Syracuse outscoring its opponents by an average of 23.9 ppg (75.9-52.0). During those games, SU has also outrebound the competition 48.5-31.4.
Head coach Quentin Hillsman's squad is coming off a 67-60 victory at South Florida on Jan. 12th. SU had four student-athletes in double figures with junior guard Chandrea Jones leading the way with 19 points. Freshman guard Erica Morrow had 15 points and made four of her five one-and-one tries in the closing minutes.
Sophomore forward Nicole Michael posted her 14th career double-double and fifth of the season with 13 points and a game- and season-high 15 rebounds. Senior forward Fantasia Goodwin also had a double-double with 10 points and 12 boards.
The Huskies are undefeated and stand at 15-0 overall and 3-0 in the BIG EAST. They are coming off a 92-72 win at Louisville on Jan. 12. Sophomore center Tina Charles added 19 points and 14 rebounds for her fourth consecutive double-double. She is the first Husky with four straight since Rebecca Lobo in 1993-94.
Five of UConn's student-athletes are averaging in double-digits and are 7-0 away from home this season, including three wins in the U.S. Virgin Islands against Stanford, Old Dominion and Duke.
