SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshman point guard Jonny Flynn paces all scorers with 14 points as Syracuse leads No. 21/25 Villanova 35-30 at the intermission.
The visiting Wildcats raced to a 10-3 advantage in the opening minutes before the Orange responded with a 9-0 run, securing a 12-10 edge. Junior center Arinze Onuaku punctuated the SU spurt with an emphatic two-hand flush off a missed lay-in from freshman combo guard Scoop Jardine.
Jardine posted eight points on 2-for-3 shooting overall, including a perfect 4-for-4 performance from the charity stripe.
Syracuse pushed its lead to a game-high eights points at 32-24 following a 9-2 scoring run. Flynn’s back-door cut on an out-of-bounds inbound resulted in a hoop-and-the-harm old-fashion three-point play.
Sophomore shooting guard Scottie Reynolds leads the Wildcats with nine points on 3-for-5 shooting from long range.
