SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Competing in its first BIG EAST dual meet, the Orange swimming and diving team swam away with two victories at Seton Hall on Saturday. As a team, SU won 23 of 32 events with the women claiming 13 victories and the men had 10. The meet was only the fourth dual meet of the year for the Orange and the women with a record of 2-2, while the men are 3-1.
The women won, 182-114 and the men were victorious, 170.50-120.50., as Syracuse swept Seton Hall for the fifth consecutive time.
The women had seven different student-athletes claim first-place finishes with junior Catrina Roth and freshman Natalie Mazzetta claiming three victories, respectively. Sophomore Masha Glukhova doubled up with two wins.
Roth touched first in the 100 back (59.52), the 200 back (2:06.80) and the 200 IM (2:12.43), while Mazzetta was victorious in the 1,000 free (season-best 10:15.35), the 200 fly (2:05.29) and the 500 free (5:03.26). Glukhova posted the best time in the 100 breast (1:07.57) and the 200 breast (2:26.96).
Junior Sarah Manning added to the Orange win column with a victory in the 200 free (1:54.84) and freshman Katlin O'Hara won the 50 free (24.89). Sophomore Carolyn Delkus touched first in the 100 free (53.64) and sophomore Katelyn Schumacher won the 100 fly (1:01.14).
The relay team of Glukhova, Manning, O'Hara and freshman Danielle Sneir claimed first in the 400 medley relay (3:58.89).
The men had three multi-event winners and three others earn wins. Sophomore Boldizsar Kiss, freshman Kuba Kotynia and senior diver Patrick White each won two events.
Kiss won the 200 fly (1:52.03) and the 100 fly (season-best 51.96) and Kotynia was first in the 200 breast (2:05.74) and the 200 IM (1:57.32). White dove to top scores in the one-meter dive (273.00) and the three-meter dive (297.68).
Junior Alex Taraskin claimed the men's first victory of the competition with a win in the 200 free (1:46.09). Freshman Berk Kahraman won the 200 back (1:54.13) and sophomore Arda Isiksalan finished first in the 200 free (1:46.09).
The meet concluded with the team of Kiss, Taraskin, sophomore Ryan Corcoran and junior Matt Brock swimming to a first-place finish in the 400 free relay (3:11.02)
The Orange returns to Webster pool on Saturday, Feb. 2 for a dual meet against Villanova. The diving competition is scheduled to start at 9 a.m., while the swimming portion begins at noon. Syracuse will be swimming at home for the first time since splitting the dual meet against Boston University on Nov. 3.
