SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior running back Curtis Brinkley was named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll for the second time this season on Monday after rushing for 144 yards in a tightly contested 17-6 loss to West Virginia at Milan Puskar Stadium. Brinkley recorded his fourth 100-yard rushing game of the season.
He is the first Orange runner to have four 100-yard games in a season since 2004.
Brinkley’s recognition is the sixth straight conference award for Syracuse. Sophomore cornerback and kick returner Mike Holmes garnered the award for their effort against Pittsburgh. He returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown and had five tackles. Senior place kicker Patrick Shadle won the honor after his performances against Northeastern and Penn State, while Brinkley earned his first honor with a 143-yard rushing act against Akron. Senior strong safety A.J. Brown was named to the honor roll after SU’s opener at Northwestern.
Brinkley is 19th nationally and fourth in the BIG EAST in rushing yards with 103.5 yards per game. The Philadelphia, Pa. native moved into the 22nd spot on Syracuse’s career rushing record list after the West Virginia contest. He has 1,589 career rushing yards on 369 carries (4.3 yards per rush). Through six games this season, Brinkley totaled 621 yards on 112 carries (5.4 yards per carry). Brinkley’s 103.5 rushing yards per game ranks seventh on Syracuse’s single-season record list.
The Orange football team is preparing for its game at #19/20 University of South Florida on Saturday, Oct. 18 at Raymond James Stadium (12:00 p.m., BIG EAST Network).
