SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange has its second bye week of the season and will use the time to focus on the final five games on the schedule. After the open date on October 25, Syracuse will host Louisville on November 1 in its first home game since September 27.
"Having a bye right now is very good for us because over the next five weeks we're playing teams that we know a lot about,” said Robinson of the remaining four league opponents and Notre Dame left on the schedule. “It will be interesting to see how it all comes out. We will continue to work on long yardage situations, second-and-long, third down on both sides of the ball. That's been a good theme for us. I also think it's a matter of the young players getting more work and more attention. Not that the older players don't get it too, but it's an opportunity to work some on the fundamentals and techniques in a week where you don't have to just be worried about a game plan. It is good for young players.”
After the home game against Louisville, the Orange will play at Rutgers (Nov. 8). Syracuse welcomes Connecticut to the Dome on Nov. 15 for its Senior Day and then closes the regular season on the road at Notre Dame (Nov. 22) and at Cincinnati (Nov. 25).
Several Orange players are ranked nationally statistically, including senior running back Curtis Brinkley (Philadelphia, Pa.) who is 24th with 104.7 yards per game. Sophomore punter Rob Long (Downingtown, Pa.) ranks second nationally in punting (47.1 yards per punt) and the Orange is sixth in the country in net punting (40.15 net yards per punt). Senior kicker Patrick Shadle (Morgantown, W. Va.) is tied for 15th in the country in field goals with 1.57 per game.
