SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University volleyball team looks to continue its four-game winning streak this Friday when it hosts the Huskies of Connecticut in its BIG EAST home opener. Action begins at 7 p.m. in Manley Field House. The Orange also welcomes BIG EAST foe St. John’s to Manley on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Going into Friday night’s matchup, the Orange is coming off four road wins. The streak began two weeks ago when Syracuse swept the Colgate Invitational with wins against Princeton (3-0) and Colgate (3-1). From there, the Orange traveled to Cornell and Rutgers where it won 3-0 and 3-1, respectively.
“We have reached a new level of team consistency and stability in the last two weeks,” head coach Jing Pu said. “We are looking forward to showing our competitiveness this weekend against two strong conference teams.”

Scouting the Huskies (October 3, 7 p.m.)
The Huskies (10-5, 1-1 BE) began the 2008 season returning four starters and eight letterwinners from 2007. UConn opened the BIG EAST portion of its schedule last weekend when it hosted defending conference co-champion Louisville on Friday, and Cincinnati on Sunday.
UConn dropped the first two sets in its match against Louisville, but fought back to take the third set. However, the Huskies weren’t able to continue the momentum into the fourth set and lost to the Cardinals, 3-1. Against Cincinnati, the Huskies tallied a season-best 58 kills on their way to a 3-2 victory. Four players tallied 11 or more kills in the match.
UConn participated in three tournaments and hosted one of its own to start of the season. The Huskies went 3-0 at the Northern Illinois Tournament, 2-1 at the Albany Tournament, 1-2 at the Michigan State Tournament and went 2-1 in their own UConn Toyota Classic.
