Rookies Making Their Mark
Three of Syracuse’s top five scorers in 2008 are freshmen. Taylor Chamberlain, Amanda Morris and Casey Ramirez each have two goals, tying them for second on the team. Morris’ five points are tied for second on the team. In addition, redshirt freshman Kaitlin Robbins scored her first career goal against Seton Hall. All together, the Orange freshmen have accounted for seven of Syracuse’s 15 goals, a percentage of 47%. The last time Orange freshmen had such a high percentage of goals scored was in 1997, when the three leading scorers on the Orange were all freshmen.
Scouting Connecticut
The Huskies are led by junior midfielder Annie Yi, whose four goals and eight points lead the squad. Goalkeeper Stephanie Labbe, an alternate on the 2008 Canadian Olympic soccer team, anchors the Connecticut defense. Labbe’s .819 save percentage is eighth in the BIG EAST, while her 86 saves rank second in the conference. The team is coached by Len Tsantiris, who is in his 28th year at Connecticut.
Scouting Providence
Providence is led on offense by junior forward Jill Camburn, who leads the team in points with nine (three goals, three assists). The Friars are represented in goal by sophomore Jill Schott, who has started all 14 games this season. Head coach Jim McGirr is in his third season guiding the Friars.
