Senior Day for Orange Field Hockey

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The third-ranked Syracuse Orange field hockey team (16-1, 4-1) concludes the home portion of its regular-season schedule against No. 14 Boston College (12-4, 1-3) on Sunday, October 26 at noon. Syracuse will honor its four seniors, Heather Doran, Heather Hess, Brittany Shannon and Shannon Taylor before today’s contest.
The Orange is coming off a 5-0 win against BIG EAST foe Villanova on Friday. Senior midfielder Shannon Taylor led the way for Syracuse, netting three goals. Sophomore forward Lindsey Conrad contributed to the effort, tallying two goals.
Taylor is in sole possession of first place on the team’s all-time single-season points list with 63. Her 25 goals are also a SU single-season record. Freshman midfielder Martina Loncarica, who now has 52 points this year, moves herself into second place on the all-time single-season points list behind Taylor. Her 24 assists are also a SU single-season record. Conrad’s 37 points rank tied for fifth (Kristin Aronowicz, 2001) on SU’s single-season chart. Sophomore back Maggie Befort’s 19 assists, moves her into second place on the all-time single-season assists list behind Loncarica. Her 30 career assists are the third-most in school history. Senior goalkeeper Heather Hess moved into fifth on SU’s career saves list with 327.
Syracuse and Boston College will meet for the 21st time, but the first since 2004. The Eagles lead the all-time series, 13-7. The Orange holds a 9-3 advantage in Syracuse.
The 14th-ranked Boston College Eagles (12-4, 1-3) come to Syracuse having won their last six contests, including a 3-1 victory against Harvard in BC’s last outing on October 22. Bob Dirks scored twice and Kathleen Murphy added the insurance goal in the win. Dirk leads Boston College with 41 points and 18 goals. Emily Kozniuk has dished out a team-best seven assists. Julia Berkowitz has seen the majority of action in the cage for the Eagles, recording a 2.11 goals-against-average and a .707 save percentage.
