The Orange earned its first victory in the series with a 14-7 win in a game played in Yankee Stadium in 1963. Syracuse also prevailed in the first meeting in the Carrier Dome, beating the Fighting Irish 38-12. In that game, SU running back Walter Reyes rushed for 189 yards and set a Dome record with 30 points on five touchdowns, a performance which vaulted him to the top of the single season rushing touchdown list (20). The Orange forced four turnovers in the contest, including two interceptions by Anthony Smith and Christian Ferrara tied the SU single-game record with five tackles for a loss.
This weekend SU running back Curtis Brinkley will continue his climb up the Orange all-time rushing list. He gained 94 yards against Connecticut, increasing his career rushing total to 2,028 yards, which ranks 17th on the list. Marty Januskiewicz is 16th with 2,069 yards and Jim Brown is 15th with 2,091 career rushing yards.
