Triche Signs Men's Basketball Letter Of Intent At Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y- Syracuse head men’s basketball coach Jim Boeheim has announced that Brandon Triche has signed a National Letters of Intent (NLI) to play for the Orange next season. Triche is a senior at Jamesville-DeWitt High School.
Triche, a 6-4 guard, was the 2008 New York Class A Player of the Year after helping the Red Rams to the Class A state and federation championships. He averaged 20.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists. He had a season-high 36 points against Cicero-North Syracuse in a January 12 encounter. Jamesville-DeWitt defeated Peekskill in the state semifinals, 74-55, and Triche contributed 16 points and eight assists. The following night, the Red Rams claimed the state title by defeating East Hampton, 78-54. Triche had 17 points and six assists in the contest.
Jamesville-DeWitt then claimed the New York State Federation Championship. Triche helped JD defeat Transit Tech in the semifinals, 66-49. He had 29 points, including a 13-14 effort from the foul line, to help the Red Rams defeat Long Island University in the championship, 70-66. His two free throws clinched the triumph. The Red Rams finished the campaign with a 26-2 record.
As a sophomore, Triche was averaging approximately 22.0 points, 9.0 assists and 7.0 steals when a left knee injury ended his campaign after 11 games. One of his outings that season was an 81-75 victory against current SU point guard Jonny Flynn and Niagara Falls High School. Triche had 31 points in the game played at Syracuse’s Manley Field House. He received second-team all-state recognition.
He was coached by Bob McKenney at Jamesville-DeWitt. Howard Triche, who played for the Orange from 1983-19887, is Brandon Triche’s uncle.
The National Letter-of-Intent program was started in 1964. Administered by the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA), the program was designed with prospective student-athletes in mind. A signed letter-of-intent indicates a prospective student-athlete agrees to attend the designated college or university for one academic year. Institutions agree to provide athletics financial aid for one academic year to the student-athlete, provided the student-athlete is admitted to the institution and is eligible for financial aid under NCAA rules.
