Conrad, Van der Post Earn BIG EAST Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore forward Lindsey Conrad and freshman back Anne-Sophie Van der Post of the Syracuse University field hockey team were named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for their performances in No. 3 Syracuse’s 7-1 victory at Rutgers on November 1. Conrad has earned Honor Roll accolades twice, while Van der Post has been named to the list three times.
Conrad registered her second and Syracuse’s 10th hat-trick of the as the Orange earned a share of the BIG EAST Regular-Season Championship with its win at Rutgers. Conrad’s first goal came less than three minutes into the contest when she drilled a shot from the left side, bouncing the ball into the far side of the cage. Conrad tallied her second score when teammate Shannon Taylor stole the ball from an RU defender and got ahead of the defense. Taylor was able to pass ahead to Conrad who played RU goalkeeper Lindsey Caliendo one-on-one, drawing her out of the box. Conrad got off a point-blank shot for a 4-0 SU lead. Conrad’s third goal of the day completed the scoring in the 67th minute. Van der Post pushed the ball just inside the circle for Conrad who found the left side of the cage. Conrad’s 45 points rank fourth on SU’s single-season list. Her 19 goals, which are a record by a sophomore, rank third on the single-season chart.
Van der Post dished out two assists at Rutgers. Van der Post’s long hit into the circle was deflected into the cage for SU’s third goal of the day. The freshman also helped Conrad complete her hat-trick by setting up her final tally of the day. Van der Post also recorded her first defensive save of the year as the Orange limited Rutgers to one goal on eight shots (three on goal) and six penalty corners.
It is the 13th time an Orange has been named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll. Conrad was the first Syracuse player to earn the accolade on September 1. Van der Post earned the accolade in two consecutive weeks (September 22 and 29). Taylor was named to the list on October 27, October 20 and September 29. Freshman back Maggie Befort earned the award on October 20 and October 6. Senior goalkeeper Heather Hess was named to the Honor Roll on October 13 and September 9. Loncarica (September 15) rounds out the list.
Syracuse earned the No. 1 seed in the 2008 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship. The Orange will face No. 4 seed Providence on Saturday, Nov. 8 at the University of Connecticut’s George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex. Action is set to begin at 11 a.m. The semifinal winners will play on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. and the champion receives the league’s automatic bid to the 2008 Division I NCAA Field Hockey Championship.
