SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sophomore cornerback and kick returner Mike Holmes (Jacksonville, Fla.) earned a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll for his efforts in Syracuse’s game at #16 Cincinnati on November 29. He recorded six tackles, one interception, one fumble recovery and two pass breakups, in addition to returning seven kickoffs for 161 yards. It is the second honor of the season for Holmes, who was recognized for his effort against Pittsburgh in September.
Holmes was SU’s fourth-leading tackler in 2008, posting 68 stops in 12 games playing both cornerback and safety. He had two interceptions, five pass breakups, four fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.
As a kick returner, Holmes averaged 23.0 yards per return (41 returns for 941 yards), including a 90-yard return for a touchdown against Pittsburgh. He ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in kick return average.
