Orange Welcomes LeMoyne and Hofstra for Scrimmage Saturday

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse men’s lacrosse team begins the 2008 exhibition schedule on Saturday, February 2 against in-state foe Hofstra and cross-city opponent LeMoyne. The three-team scrimmage begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Carrier Dome.
Syracuse head coach John Desko enters his 10th season at the helm of the SU program. Desko is 102-38 with three national championships in his first nine years. The Orange returns eight starters from last year’s squad including preseason All-Americans Mike Leveille (Delmar, N.Y.), Dan Hardy (Tully, N.Y.) and Steven Brooks (Libertyville, Ill.). Syracuse ranks ninth in both in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) and Lacrosse Magazine preseason polls and is tabbed 11th in the Inside Lacrosse rankings.
Hofstra head coach Seth Tierney is in his second season, leading his charges to 6-8 overall mark last season and 3-3 record in the Colonial Athletic Association. Six of the team’s top seven scorers from a year ago return to the lineup in 2008, including junior Tom Dooley’s team-high 28 points and 26 goals. The Pride is tabbed 17th in the USILA preseason ranking and forecasted 19th by Inside Lacrosse.
Head coach Dan Sheehan is in his 11th season on the LeMoyne sidelines and boasts a career mark of 127-30. The Dolphins return seven starters in 2008, including preseason All-American senior Mike McDonald. LeMoyne is coming off its third national championship, and second straight, in 2007 and rank first in both the USILA and Inside Lacrosse preseason polls.
LeMoyne and Hofstra face-off at 11:30 with the Orange meeting the Pride in the second outing. Syracuse plays LeMoyne in the day’s final contest.
Following Saturday’s exhibition, the Orange hosts Harvard on Saturday, February 9 at the Carrier Dome in its preseason finale. Syracuse opens regular season play on Sunday, February 17 at home against Villanova at 2:00 p.m.
