NEW ORLEANS, La. – Former Syracuse star and current member of the Denver Nuggets, Carmelo Anthony, is set to start in the 2008 NBA All-Star Game: East vs. West, on Sunday, February 17 at 8:00 p.m. at the New Orleans Arena in New Orleans, La.
After Anthony helped lead SU to its first-ever NCAA National Championship in 2003 and was named the Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, Anthony was drafted by Denver in the first-round with the third pick overall.
In his first season with the Nuggets, Anthony was a unanimous NBA All-Rookie First Team selection and became the first first-year player to lead a playoff team in scoring (21.0 ppg) since David Robinson accomplished the feat during the 1989-90 season. He was also an All-NBA Third Team selection in 2005-06 and 2006-07. Anthony averaged a career best in points (28.9 ppg) in 2006-07.
Anthony participated in his first NBA All-Star Game last season, scoring 20 points and tallying nine rebounds in helping the West to a 135-132 win against the East.
