SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse men and women’s indoor track & field teams will compete in their final weekend of competition before the 2008 BIG EAST Indoor Championship on February 23 and 24. The Orange heads south down Interstate-81 for the Binghamton Triangular on Friday, February 15.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse men and women’s indoor track & field teams will compete in their final weekend of competition before the 2008 BIG EAST Indoor Championship on February 23 and 24. The Orange heads south down Interstate-81 for the Binghamton Triangular on Friday, February 15.
Syracuse will make its final bid for conference qualifying times and marks at the Binghamton Triangular. The Orange will look to sustain momentum gained through the 2008 indoor season, including last weekend’s showings at the New Balance Invitational and Cornell Open.
Sophomore Maegan Krifchin finished third in the 1,000m run with a BIG EAST and ECAC-qualifying time of 2:54.79 seconds. Krifchin has also qualified for the ECAC Championship in the one-mile run and the BIG EAST Championship in the 3,000m run.
Senior Ramon Sosa has celebrated a number of successful efforts throughout the indoor season, including a first-place finish at the Penn State National Open and the nationally acclaimed Millrose Games in the 60m hurdles. Sosa finished 12th with a BIG EAST and IC4A-qualifying time of 7.95 seconds at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational.
In addition, the Orange competed at the Cornell Invite on February 9. Junior Kayla Carter’s distance of 11.30m and fourth-place finish in the triple jump qualified for the BIG EAST Championship. Sophomore Jon Buice placed fourth in the 60m hurdles with a BIG EAST-qualifying time of 8.42 seconds.
Junior Stacie Boyle captured the 500m dash crown with a time of 1:20.25 and freshman Catherine DeSarle finished first in the 3,000m run with a tally of 10:14.01.
Junior Mike Chitro finished sixth in the men’s heptathlon standings with a season-high 4,564 points, claiming an invite to the BIG EAST Championship with a high jump leap of 1.94m. Freshman Evan Stivala qualified for the conference finals with a season-best distance of 6.70m in the long jump.
The 2008 BIG EAST Indoor Championship will be held at the Armory in New York, N.Y.
