ITHACA, N.Y. – Sophomore Ashley Spicer tallied her sixth singles win of the season, including her second in as many outings, in the Orange’s narrow 4-3 loss at Ivy League foe Cornell on Friday. The Big Red tallied the match’s doubles point before the squads split the six decisions in singles play.

Spicer’s sixth win of the season comes at a familiar position. The sophomore posted a 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 victory at the No. 4 spot. Freshman Christina Tan collected her second-straight victory with a 5-7, 6-1, 6-0 triumph at the No. 1 position. Freshman Jacquelynn Tang is riding a two-match win streak after totaling a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5.

Freshman Simone Kalhorn’s three-match win streak came to an end following a 6-3, 6-0 loss at No. 2. Junior Maria Vasilyeva endured a valiant 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-4 setback at No. 3. Sophomore Chelsea Jones suffered a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) loss at the No. 6 position.

Second-year head coach Luke Jensen threw a different look at Cornell, shuffling the doubles pairings for the first time this season. Kalhorn remained in the No. 1 position and was paired with Spicer as the duo battled to an 8-6 loss. Vasilyeva, joined by Tang at No. 2, captured the 70^th win of her Orange career with an 8-3 triumph. Tan and Jones suffered an 8-3 setback at No. 3.

Syracuse (4-4, 2-0) will look to rebound when it resumes BIG EAST play on Saturday, February 16 against Seton Hall at 10:00 a.m. in the Drumlins Tennis Center.
