SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse tennis team remains unbeaten in BIG EAST competition following a commanding 7-0 sweep against Seton Hall on Saturday at the Drumlins Tennis Center. Sophomore Ashley Spicer collected her seventh singles victory in the last eight matches.

Spicer’s team-best seventh win in singles play was also her third-straight dating back to last weekend’s win against Bucknell. The sophomore bested Seton Hall’s Nathalie Ranger, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 4 position.
Freshman Christina Tan totaled her third singles win in as many contests with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) victory against the Pirates’ Denise Liebschner at the No. 1 position. Rookie Jacquelynn Tang is also riding a three-match win streak after a resounding 6-1, 6-0 triumph against Seton Hall’s Liza Chu at No. 5.
Freshman Simone Kalhorn posted a convincing 6-1, 6-2 victory against Danielle Viola at No. 2, while junior Maria Vasilyeva battled back from a first-set loss in 4-6, 6-4, 10-1 win at No. 3 versus Amanda El-Tobgy.
Sophomore Chelsea Jones earned her fifth win of the singles season with a 6-1, 6-0 victory against SHU’s Alexandra Harvey at the No. 6 spot.
Syracuse second-year head coach Luke Jensen continued his new look in doubles competition, after introducing new pairings against Cornell on Friday. Vasilyeva and Tang improved to 2-0 with an 8-4 victory versus Liebschner and Ranger at No. 2.
Kalhorn and Spicer collected a commanding 8-2 victory against El-Tobgy and Viola at No. 1, while Jones and Tan bested Chu and Harvey at No. 3.
Syracuse (5-4, 3-0) will play its third match in as many days on Sunday, February 17 at BIG EAST foe Connecticut at 11:00 a.m.
