Orange Unblemished: Tennis Remains Perfect in BIG EAST After 6-1 Win at Connecticut

The Orange tennis team improved its record to a perfect 4-0 in BIG EAST play with a commanding 6-1 win against Connecticut on Sunday.

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Syracuse tennis team collected its third win in the last four matches and improved its record to 4-0 in the BIG EAST following a convincing 6-1 win at Connecticut on Sunday. The Orange tallied the doubles’ point with two wins before capturing five of six singles contests.

Sophomore Ashley Spicer tallied her team-best eighth singles win of the season with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Jessica Porter at No. 4. Freshman Christina Tan (6-3, 6-3) and Jacquelynn Tang (5-7, 6-3, 6-2) moved their singles marks to 7-3 with victories at No. 1 and No. 5, respectively.

Junior Maria Vasilyeva tallied a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 3 against BreAnn Cheung. Sophomore Chelsea Jones posted a 7-5, 6-3 victory versus Megan Doran at No. 6.

Freshman Simone Kalhorn suffered the Orange’s lone singles’ setback of the match, losing 6-4, 6-3 against Emily Herb at the No. 2 position.

However, Kalhorn and Spicer recorded their second doubles win in three tries at the No. 1 position with an 8-4 decision against Kelley LoRusso and Herb. Tan and Jones were victorious at No. 3 with an 8-6 triumph versus Doran and Cheung.

Vasilyeva and Tang endured their first doubles loss of the season, succumbing 8-2 against Allison Campitiello and Porter at the No. 2 position.

Syracuse (6-4, 4-0) continues a season-long six-match road trip on Saturday, February 23 against BIG EAST foe DePaul at 12:00 p.m. in Milwaukee, Wis. The Orange visits Marquette on Sunday, February 24 at 9:00 a.m.
