One of the best to ever wear the Orange, former Syracuse and current Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb will be the Jreck Subs Distinguished Lecture speaker on Tuesday, April 8, at 6:30 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. The lecture is in conjunction with the third annual gala Charity Sports Auction presented by the Syracuse University Sports Management Club.
During his tenure at Syracuse, McNabb led the Orange to three BIG EAST Championships, four post-season bowl games and a record of 36-14 on the field. He established Orange records the most career touchdown passes (77), total offense in a career (9,950 yards gained) and in a season (2,982), total offensive yards per game (221.1). The three-time BIG EAST Conference Offensive Player of the Year is the only person in the history of the league to earn all-conference honors for four years. During his rookie season he won the 1996 Gator Bowl Most Valuable Player Award after leading the Orange to a 41-0 victory against Clemson.
McNabb was the second overall selection in the 1999 NFL Draft by the Eagles. He has led the Eagles to a Super Bowl appearance, four NFC Championship games appearances and more postseason wins than any other quarterback in team history. He also holds several team records, including single-season quarterback rating and completion percentage, career completions, most wins by a starting quarterback and most 300-yard passing games.
Following the lecture, the Charity Sports Auction takes place from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Hundreds of items will be for sale, including sports memorabilia from professional and collegiate sports teams and players, as well as non-sports items ranging from electronics and jewelry to tickets and restaurant gift certificates. A family fun area will be available, along with professional athletes, both local and national, signing autographs. A portion of the event's proceeds will benefit the American Diabetes Association, as well as the Sport Management Club.
