LONG ISLAND, N.Y. – The freshman duo of Katlin O'Hara and Natalie Mazzetta made their marks during day two of the BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championship. O'Hara set a Syracuse recordin the 50 Freestyle during the preliminary session with a time of 23.66, while Mazzetta set a school record with a NCAA "B" qualifying time of 4:50.17 in the 500 Freestyle, finishing second. Both the women and men's team are in seventh place heading into day three. The women have 96 points and are tied with Villanova and the men have 94 points.
O'Hara and Mazzetta teamed up with junior Sarah Manning and sophomore Carolyn Delkus and finished seventh in the 200 Freestyle Relay with a season-best time of 1:35.77.
Manning also placed 12th in the 500 Freestyle with a personal-best time of 4:55.43.
For the men, junior Alex Taraskin placed 11th in the 500 Freestyle with a season-best time of 4:31.26. Sophomore Ryan Corcoran finished 15th in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 21.30 and classmate Glenn Kalata placed 14th in the 200 IM, touching in season-best 1:52.89.
Taraskin, Corcoran, Kalata and sophomore Boldizsar Kiss touched sixth in the 200 Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:24.09.
Competition resumes on Friday, Feb. 22 with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. and finals starting at 6 p.m.
