Syracuse will entertain the Bearcats with hopes of ending its first two-game slide of the 2007-08 campaign. The Orange has suffered back-to-back setbacks against No. 16/16 Notre Dame, 79-67, on Feb. 16 and against Providence, 62-58, on Feb. 19.
The Loud House has proved to be a difficult venue for opposing teams this season as Syracuse owns a 10-2 record on its home floor. The Orange’s 10 victories at home is its most since tallying 10 during the 2001-02 season. SU totaled a program-best 13 wins at home in 1987-88.
The Orange is also in pursuit of its eighth win in the BIG EAST, the most since the 1987-88 season when the team captured nine triumphs in conference play. SU is 3-2 at home this season against teams from the BIG EAST.
Syracuse’s offensive attack, ranked fifth in the BIG EAST and 28 nationally, is powered by four scorers in double figures. Junior guard Chandrea Jones, thrice named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll this season, leads the charge with a team-high 15.4 points per game. Senior Fantasia Goodwin (12.9), sophomore Nicole Michael (12.8) and Erica Morrow (12.4) support the Orange’s cause.
Goodwin, also a three-time BIG EAST Honor Roll selection, has keyed the Syracuse efforts on the window, placing fifth in the conference and 36 nationally with a 9.1 boards per contest average. Syracuse ranks second in the BIG EAST as a team and ninth nationally with a plus-8.4 rebounding margin.
The Orange and Bearcats will square off for just the fifth time in the programs’ histories, as UC owns a 3-1 all-time advantage. Cincinnati has collected two consecutive wins against Syracuse, including last year’s 59-54 victory at Fifth Third Arena in the Orange’s season finale.
Cincinnati arrives in the Salt City having lost 10 of its last 11 contests, including two straight against Villanova and West Virginia. Redshirt-sophomore Kahla Roudebush leads the Bearcat offense with a team-best 16.6 points per game. Junior Jill Stephens averages 13.2 points and 9.2 rebounds an outing. Cincinnati is 7-54 overall against ranked opponents.
