Hogan Named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week; Rowan Named to Weekly Honor Roll

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Syracuse University freshman goalkeeper Liz Hogan has been named the BIG EAST Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week for her performance in the Orange’s two victories last week. In addition, junior Katie Rowan was named to the league’s weekly honor roll.
Hogan made her first collegiate start in Syracuse’s season opener against Canisius and recorded four saves and allowed just two goals in 55 minutes of action in a 24-3 victory. Against No. 17/14 Dartmouth, Hogan tallied seven saves and again allowed just two goals in 55 minutes. In the two games, she posted a 2.15 goals against average and a .733 save percentage. Hogan leads the conference in both categories.
Rowan recorded 14 points in the Orange’s two victories. Against Canisius, Rowan scored nine points on six goals and three assists. The nine points tie her for third on Syracuse’s single-game record list, while the six goals tie her for the fifth-highest single-game total in school history. Rowan had five points against Dartmouth on two goals and three assists and moved into third place on Syracuse’s all-time scoring list. In just 37 career games, Rowan has 156 points on 113 goals and 43 assists.
With its two victories last week, Syracuse has climbed to No. 4 in the Inside Lacrosse media poll. It marks Syracuse’s highest ranking in the history of the program. The Orange takes on No. 2/2 Virginia in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday at 1 p.m.
