SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse men’s lacrosse team completes its brief preseason schedule on Saturday, February 9 at 12:00 p.m. against Ivy League foe Harvard at the Carrier Dome. Preseason All-American senior Mike Leveille (Delmar, N.Y.) powered the Orange to two victories against Hofstra and cross-city opponent LeMoyne in its 2008 debut on February 2.
The contest will be streamed live on Orange All Access. Play-by-play voice Brian Higgins and analyst Kyle Fetterly will have the call. In addition to the game, All Access will stream the Villains Trust concert that is part of "Gary Gait's Laxapalooza." The band features former SU lacrosse standout Mike Powell.
"Gary Gait's Laxapalooza" is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. It includes shooting demonstrations, a youth clinic, family fun zone and autograph sessions. It is free and open to the public. Those interested in participating in the youth clinic should bring their equipment (sticks, gloves, goggles, etc.).
Behind five points from Leveille on three goals and two assists, the Orange bested the Pride, 12-5. Sophomore Max Bartig (East Northport, N.Y.) added two scores in the victory, while freshman Stephen Keogh (Toronto, Ontario) posted one goal and three helpers.
Syracuse toppled the Dolphins in the day’s third contest, 9-3. The Orange blitzed LeMoyne, 5-0, in the opening quarter behind five different scorers. Leveille tallied two goals and two assists, while senior Greg Niewieroski (Watertown, N.Y.) collected one score and an assist.
The Orange boasted a three-man attack in the net against Hofstra and LeMoyne. Junior Peter Coluccini (South Salem, N.Y.) and freshman John Galloway (Syracuse, N.Y.) split the starts, while sophomore Al Cavalieri (Lathrup Village, Mich.) earned playing time as a reserve in both contests. Galloway led SU with two stops against the Pride, while each netminder made one save apiece against the Dolphins.
Harvard will make its first and only preseason appearance against the Orange on Saturday before opening the regular season versus Siena on February 23. First-year head coach John Tillman inherits a Crimson squad that finished 5-7 overall and 3-3 in Ivy League play in 2007.
Sophomore Jason Duboe returns to the Harvard lineup after posting 11 goals and 12 points last season. Junior goalkeeper Joe Pike started all 12 games in between the pipes for the Crimson in 2007 while collecting a 10.14 goals against average and .487 save percentage.
Syracuse, ranked ninth by the USILA and Lacrosse Magazine, and 11th by Inside Lacrosse in preseason polls, opens the 2008 regular season eight days from Saturday against Villanova on February 17at 2:00 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
