BUFFALO, N.Y. – Freshman Simone Kalhorn collected a 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 singles victory in the Orange’s 6-1 loss at Buffalo on Saturday afternoon. The Bulls tallied five wins in singles action and posted a three-match sweep in doubles play.

Kalhorn, playing at the No. 2 position, improved her singles record to 4-2 with the win against Buffalo’s Denise Harijanto. It’s the rookie’s second win in as many matches after her 6-0, 6-4 triumph on Friday night at Niagara.
Freshman and team captain Christina Tan suffered a 6-3, 6-4 setback at the No. 1 position, while junior Maria Vasilyeva was defeated at the No. 3 spot, 6-2, 6-3. Sophomore Ashley Spicer claimed a 6-1 win in the first set before losing sets two and three, 6-1, 7-5, respectively, at the No. 4 position.
Sophomore Chelsea Jones rallied to even her match at one set apiece with a 7-6 (7-2) win in the second frame. However, Buffalo’s Tina Jacob bested Jones in set three, 6-4. Freshman Jacquelynn Tang endured a 6-2, 6-0 loss at No. 5.
Tan and Kalhorn suffered an 8-1 loss at the No. 1 doubles position against UB’s Harijanto and Diana Popescu. Vasilyeva and Jones were dealt an 8-3 defeat at the hands of Smaranda Stan and Diana Toia. Spicer and Tang battled to an 8-6 loss at No. 3 versus Jacob and Andreea Novaceanu.
The Orange returns home from a four-match road trip on Sunday, February 10 against Bucknell at 10:00 a.m. at the Drumlins Tennis Center.
