SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshman point guard Jonny Flynn paced the Orange with 28 points in an 82-77 loss to Pittsburgh at the Carrier Dome. The rookie hit six three point field goals in matching his career-best. Forward Donte Greene contributed 23 points and guard Paul Harris added 18. Sam Young paced the Panthers with 19 points.
Pittsburgh guard LeVance Fields hit four free throws with two seconds remaining to seal the victory for the Panthers. The four free throws were a result of a Syracuse foul and a technical foul called on the Orange. Flynn gave Syracuse the lead, 77-73, with 1:38 remaining on a driving layup. The Panthers responded, scoring the final nine points of the game.
