PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Syracuse University senior Shannon Brushe has earned the BIG EAST Conference Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week award for her performance in the Orange’s win against Notre Dame. In addition, junior Katie Rowan was named to the league’s weekly honor roll.
Brushe and the Orange defense held No. 12/16 Notre Dame scoreless in overtime to preserve a 16-13 win on Sunday. Syracuse held the nation’s leading scorer, Irish junior Jillian Byers to just three points on two goals and an assist. Brushe also had a draw control and a caused turnover as the Orange won its league opener for the first time in school history.
Rowan was named to the weekly honor roll for the third time this season after leading the Syracuse offense at Notre Dame with four goals and two assists. The four goals move Rowan into a tie for third place on the Orange’s career goals scored list with 127.

Syracuse, which is ranked No. 5 in this week’s Inside Lacrosse poll, goes for its fourth straight win on Wednesday when it hosts Towson at 1 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
