SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshman combo guard Scoop Jardine logged just nine minutes in the first half, but changed the face of the game and sparked the Orange to a 43-24 against Massachusetts at the intermission. Syracuse is one win shy of advancing to the National Invitation Tournament semifinal round at Madison Square Garden.
Jardine keyed a critical 10-0 run midway through the first frame, raising the Orange from its opening minutes shooting slumber. He emerged from the SU bench and had a hand in all 10 points during the spurt, supplying Syracuse with a 21-8 cushion at the 9:15 mark. Jardine tallied four points, dished four assists and grabbed three rebounds.

Freshman forward Donte' Greene led all scorers with 11 points, on 3-for-4 shooting from long range, and secured five boards. Freshman point guard Jonny Flynn totaled eight points and handed out three helpers. Flynn provided the highlight of the first stanza with an emphatic rejection off the window on a Ricky Harris lay-in attempt in transition.
The Minutemen shot 10-for-43 from the field overall, including a dry 2-for-15 display from three-point range. Junior center Luke Bonner led UMass with eight points on 4-for-4 shooting.
