BALTIMORE, Md. - Orange midfielder Steven Brooks (Libertyville, Ill.) was added to the 2008 Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List on Wednesday, March 26. He is one of three Syracuse players up for college lacrosse’s top prize. Classmate Mike Leveille (Delmar, N.Y.) and junior Dan Hardy (Tully, N.Y.) were picked to the initial watch list released on Feb. 17.
Brooks is Syracuse’s highest scoring middie. He ranks third on the team with 18 points and 12 goals. Brooks scored the 50th goal of his career Tuesday night at Hobart and finished with two scores against the Statesmen.
Brooks has been critical to the Orange’s success this season, developing a knack for scoring clutch goals. The senior netted game-tying tallies in the final minute of consecutive games against Virginia and Georgetown to force overtime. The following week at Johns Hopkins, Brooks won the game with a goal in the first minute of OT.
In addition to Brooks, Harvard’s Jason DuBoe, UMBC’s Jeremy Blevins, Jordan McBride of Stony Brook, Miles Kass of Georgetown and Lynchburg’s Ryan Cranston were mid-season additions to the watch list.
The Tewaaraton Trophy has been presented to the nation’s Most Outstanding Player each year since 2001. The award will be handed out on May 29 at the eighth annual awards ceremony at the National Museum of the American Indian.
