Following the race, there will be a ceremony in which SU’s newest vessel The Iacovangelo Family will be named. The racing shell dedicated by the Iacovangelo family honors the commitment of Francesca Iacovangelo.
“She was a great manager and one who made it hard for anyone following in her footsteps,” head coach Kris Sanford said. “She helped to keep me organized and also helped to keep things light in the coach boat.”
Iacovangelo graduated from Syracuse University in 1999 with a degree in policy studies. She currently is a sports reporter for Press Pass, an interne- based, behind-the-scenes sports reporting company.
At Syracuse, she walked on as a freshman and rowed the whole year and then made the decision to come back her sophomore year as manager. She was my manager for the next three years.
The Kittell Cup goes to the winner of the annual Syracuse-Boston University race and has changed hands each year since it was first awarded in 2003. Donated by former SU rower Kristin Bidwell ’90, the Kittell Cup is named after former associate director of athletics Janet Kittell for her support of the women’s rowing program.
