SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange men and women’s indoor track & field teams return to action on Saturday, March 8 and Sunday, March 9 at the ECAC/IC4A Championships held in Boston, Mass.
The Syracuse men and women will resume competition after a two-week hiatus following the BIG EAST Championship on February 23 and 24. The Orange posted identical ninth-place finishes in the men and women standings.
Senior Jillian Drouin highlighted the Syracuse efforts with a record-setting and NCAA-qualifying first-place finish in the pentathlon. She tallied 4,099 points, surpassing the SU school record and Armory Track (New York, N.Y.) Open and Collegiate standard. Additionally, Drouin’s second-place leap of 1.80m claimed All-BIG EAST accolades in the high jump.
Senior Ramon Sosa established an Orange school record in the 60m hurdles, posting a second-place time of 7.78 seconds and earning all-conference honors.
Graduate Sheron Mark earned All-BIG EAST laurels with a third-place finish and distance of 13.04m in the triple jump, eclipsing her own school record of 12.95m tallied in 2005.
Junior Jeff Scull finished third with an all-conference time of 14:09.59 in the 5,000m run.

Sprints
Junior Skyy Simmons will lead the SU men sprints lineup, competing in the 500m dash. He tallied a preliminary qualifying time of 1:03.79 at the BIG EAST Championship. Simmons’ best performance of the season is 1:03.71, earning first-place honors at the Penn State National Open.
Freshman Shamel Lewis will compete in the 55m dash and freshman Da’Mon Merkerson is included in the 400m dash field. Merkerson is one-fourth of the Orange’s distance medley relay team that set a school record with a time of 9:54.90 at the BIG EAST Championship.
The freshmen duo of Lareea Chisholm and Flings Owusu-Agyapong will represent the Syracuse women in the 60m dash.
Hurdles
Sosa and junior Terry Marshall will compete in the 55m hurdles. Sosa owns a team-best 7.43, tallied at the SU Welcome Back meet. Marshall will be competing in the event for the first time this indoor season.
Drouin will compete in the 60m hurdles, vying to best her season-high mark of 8.64 seconds in the pentathlon at the BIG EAST Championship.
Distance
Graduate Jordan Davis will compete in the one-mile run, looking to improve upon his SU school-record time of 4:02.79 at the Giegengack Invitational. Sophomores Dan Busby, Curtis Bixler and Jay Koloseus will compete in the 3,000m run.
Sophomore Maegan Krifchin will look to defend her first-place crown from 2007 in the 1,000m run. She became the first female SU performer since Alison Culley in 2003 to win an ECAC title with a time of 2:52.81.
Sophomore Stefanie Slekis will compete in the 5,000m run, while freshman Liz McCarter is included in the 1,000m run field. Slekis (17:26.58) and McCarter (2:55.63) have posted the second-ranked performances for the Orange this season in each event, respectively.
Jumps
Junior Bernard Bush owns the top mark in the long jump (7.33m) and triple jump (14.48m) for the Orange this season, and will compete in both events in Boston. Bush placed one spot shy of all-conference recognition in the long jump (7.24m) at the BIG EAST Championship.
Drouin will compete in the high jump after a fourth-place performance last season, and Mark will compete in the long jump.
Multi-Events
Sophomore Jon Buice established a Syracuse school record with 4,971 points in the heptathlon at the BIG EAST Championship. He will be joined by junior Mike Chitro and sophomore Eric Cleckner in the event this weekend.
Senior Kaity Lambracht and sophomore Uhunoma Osazuwa will compete in the pentathlon. Osazuwa (3,757) and Lambracht (3,675) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, at the BIG EAST Championship.
Relays
The Orange women will enter three relay teams in the 4x400m, 4x800m and distance medley.
University of Washington Last Chance Meet
In addition, senior Kyle Heath and junior Jeff Scull will compete at the University of Washington Last Chance Meet, held Saturday, March 9 in Seattle. Heath will look to improve upon his 4:04.30 time in the one-mile run, collected at the Giegengack Invitational. Scull will compete in the 3,000m run for the first time this season.
