Junior Katie Rowan was named the Division I Player of the Week by womenslacrosse.com after leading the fifth-ranked Orange to wins against No. 6 Georgetown and Albany. Rowan was also honored as the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and WomensLax.com Player of the Week.
Rowan enjoyed a record-breaking performance in Syracuse’s win against Georgetown, scoring four goals and dishing out seven assists. She broke the single-game school record with 11 points and tied the league mark for most points in a conference game. Her seven assists also tied the SU and BIG EAST single-game mark and give her 37 on the year, which is also a single-season school record.
Rowan leads the team in scoring with 80 points and needs just seven more points to break the school single-season scoring record she set last season. In 2007, she notched 86 points on 59 goals and 27 assists.
In addition, Rowan is on the doorstep of becoming the Orange’s all-time leading scorer. Rowan has 222 points in her career, just 11 points shy of tying Leigh-Ann Zimmer for the top spot on the all-time list. Zimmer recorded 233 points from 2001-04.
Syracuse goes for its fourth straight win on Saturday at Rutgers at 11 a.m.
