Syracuse's varsity eight competed against Penn and Northeastern on the Charles River Saturday.

BOSTON – The Orange women’s rowing varsity four defeated Pennsylvania and Northeastern today on the Charles River. The crew including Kate Todd (coxswain), Ashley Tabor (stroke), Zaula Usman (3 seat), Susan Groff (2 seat) and Brittany Jock (bow) faced a slight cross trail wind and good water in posting a time of 7:55.1. The Orange defeated Penn by (7:56.1) by one second and Northeastern (8:00.7) by five seconds.

The varsity eight of Tina Campagna (coxswain), Allison Doodeman (stroke), Natalie Mastracci (7 seat), Erica Mahon (6 seat), Jess Tacinelli (5 seat), Lindsay Lentini (4 seat), Liz Henwood (3 seat), Sarah Stapp (2 seat) and Christine DePompeo (bow) recorded a time of 7:04.1, finishing third to Northeastern (6:52.2) and Penn (6:58.6).

The second varsity eight of Lydia Wong (coxswain), Marua Helmer (stroke), Christine Turner (7 seat), Kaitlin Grant (6 seat), Rachael Ogundarin (5 seat), Heidi Bulk (4 seat), Ildiko Toth (3 seat), Theresa Alessio (2 seat) and Mandy DeHaven (bow) finished the 2,000-meter course in 7:19.6, behind Penn (7:04.1) and Northeastern (7:13.4).

The novice eight (7:25.4) finished third behind Penn (7:10.4) and Northeastern (7:24.7).

The novice four (9:00.1) placed fourth behind Penn A (8:06.2), Penn B (8:44.1) and Northeastern (8:46.3).

The Orange returns to the water on Saturday, April 19 at the Charles River Challenge.
