BALTIMORE, Md. – Senior attackman Mike Leveille (Delmar, N.Y.) and senior midfielder Steven Brooks (Libertyville, Ill.) have been selected as nominees for the 2008 Tewaaraton Trophy which is presented to the nation’s top lacrosse player. Leveille and Brooks are two of 22 men’s lacrosse student-athletes spanning all three divisions up for the award.
Leveille has had a standout campaign. He ranks in the top 10 nationally in points per game (4.73), goals per game (2.73) and assists per game (2.0). He leads the Orange in points (52), goals (30) and assists (22).
Leveille owns the nation’s second-longest scoring streak, having registered at least one point in each of the last 50 games. He has multiple points in every contest this season and ranks in the top 20 in Orange history in career points (184), goals (113) and assists (71). The 6-3 senior was voted a first-team, mid-season All-American by Inside Lacrosse and is a finalist for the 2008 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award.
Brooks is the Orange’s highest scoring midfielder with 18 goals and 10 assists for a total of 28 points. He’s scored three-game winning goals in 2008, including the winner in overtime to lift SU to a 14-13 victory at Johns Hopkins on March 15. He scored a career-high six points (3g, 3a) versus Princeton on April 5 and, like Leveille, was tabbed a first-team, mid-season All-American by Inside Lacrosse.
The 2008 Tewaaraton Trophy will be handed out on May 29 at the eighth annual awards ceremony that will take place at the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.
Leveille, Brooks and the rest of the Orange look to improve to 11-1 tonight when they host Albany at 7 p.m. in the Dome.
