SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Four-time Canadian National Champion Jenna Caira has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Orange softball team, head coach Leigh Ross announced on Monday. Caira pitched her way to two Canadian championships at the midget and bantam levels, respectively, and is a member of the Canadian Junior National Team that competed in the World Championships during the summer of 2007 in Holland.
"Jenna is going to be a huge addition to our program," said associate head coach and pitching coach Kyle Jamieson. "She is a difference maker. Everywhere she has pitched she has won and she has pitched at the highest level. She is a member of Canada’s National Junior Team and is also a four-time national champion. Jenna is a winner and a leader. We are extremely excited she will be a part of the Syracuse family for the next four years."
Caira, a Richmond Hill, Ontario native and Switzerland resident, boasted a 0.52 ERA as her team won the national midget championship in 2007. She was named all-star pitcher during round robbing play and the top player for the playoff round.
In 2006, she won her first midget title and was selected as the most valuable player of the round robin. She was also named an all-star pitcher in round robin and top player in the playoffs. Caira posted a 0.40 ERA throughout the summer and led her team to a division championship at the Rising Stars Showcase and to a bronze medal at the Canadian Cup.
At the bantam level, Caira's team claimed back-to-back national championships in 2004 and 2005 and she was named top player in the playoff round twice. During her final season at the level she earned top pitcher accolades. That same year, her team took home gold at the Ontario Provincial Championships and won silver at the Toledo Fastpitch Classic. In 2004, she was awarded three player of the game awards at the Canadian Nationals and was the most valuable player at the Ontario Provincial Championships, where her team won silver.
