SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The storied tradition of Syracuse lacrosse will be recognized on Saturday, April 5 as several former men’s and women’s players return to the Dome for a pair of reunions. First, Syracuse will celebrate the first 10 years of the women’s program by recognizing almost 30 former players, including eight current and former All-Americans, at halftime of its game against Georgetown. Then, at halftime of the men’s game versus Princeton, SU will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the men’s undefeated 1988 national championship team.
The women’s program owns an overall record of 115-55 (.676) and has made three NCAA Tournament appearances, including earning a berth last season after winning the BIG EAST Championship. Among the alumnae scheduled to be in attendance is all-time leading scorer Leigh-Ann Zimmer, as well as Katrina Hable, Erin MacDonald, Carrie Soults and more.
As head coach of the women’s team and an All-American midfielder on the 1988 squad, Hall of Famer Gary Gait will take part in both reunions. Gait had one of the best seasons in school history to propel the Orange to the 1988 NCAA title. He scored a team record 70 goals and finished with 87 points as the Orange steamrolled the competition, posting a 15-0 record. Syracuse’s perfect season included a 13-8 decision against Cornell in the Dome to win its first of three consecutive national championships.
Approximately 20 other members of the squad are scheduled to be in attendance, including lacrosse Hall of Famers Roy Simmons Jr., Paul Gait, Pat McCabe, team captain Neil Alt, Rodney Dumpson and Matt Palumb.
Tickets for Saturday’s doubleheader are $5 for adults and $2 for youth 12 and under until halftime of the women's game when the cost increases to the regular price for a men's game ($8 for adults and $4 for youth 12 and under). The women’s contest begins at 12 p.m. and the men’s game faces off at 3:30 p.m.
