SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Members of the Syracuse women’s basketball spent Wednesday morning donating their time and effort to Long Branch Elementary School in Liverpool. The Orange read to a group of students, shot baskets and signed autographs.
“The SU students talked about how much work and preparation goes into school,” said Long Branch principal Bob McCrone. They showed the kids the joy of reading and how much fun it can be.”
“It’s really important to give back to the community,” freshman guard Tasha Harris said. “A lot of kids look to us. The more we give back the more the community will support us.”
Wednesday's volunteer effort was part of ‘Cuse Cares Community Service Program.
‘Cuse Cares is supported by Citizens Bank and immerses Syracuse University student-athletes and coaches in the community. For the past 11 years the 'Cuse Cares program has been recognized with the Chancellor's Award for Public Service (CAPS), given annually to Syracuse University students and student organizations that exemplify the highest ideal of sustained, quality service to the Syracuse community.
