Syracuse University’s athletics department takes great pride in the athletic and academic success of its student-athletes. The 2008 graduation class is well on its way to impacting the world as it has the record books of the Orange. Graduates are pursuing fields in education, business, speech pathology, youth development, engineering, and professional sports, amongst others, as well as continuing their education in graduate school.
“This class is a true representation of scholarship in action,” said Kenneth Miles, associate athletics director for student support services. “As you can see, we have individuals who are going to graduate school to further their knowledge and others who are going into non-profit and private sectors to make a societal impact where necessary.
“On behalf of the administration we are proud of their accomplishments. I want to take this time to congratulate them. They have reached one of many milestones in their life, and I can assure them none will be as memorable as their undergraduate years here at Syracuse University. The records they have established, the championships they have won, the impact they have had on the community, and more importantly, the impressions they have had on one another as well as me, are truly representative of scholarship in action.”
The athletics department displayed its academic success in the most recent NCAA report regarding the Academic Progress Rate for Division I. Every team exceeded the threshold of 925. The men’s and women’s cross country teams earned the NCAA Division I Academic Performance Rate (APR) public recognition award for achieving a multi-year APR score in the top 10 percent of teams in Division I cross country. It is the second consecutive honor for both squads.
Congratulations to the Class of 2008! Go Orange!
