SU Lacrosse Culminates 2008 Season at NCAA Day of Champions

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Syracuse University men’s lacrosse team put the finishing touches on its national championship season Tuesday. The Orange joined 19 other national title winners from a variety of different sports at the White House for the NCAA Day of Champions.
Syracuse toured the East Wing of the White House, posed for a team photo with President George W. Bush, then adjourned to the South Lawn where it was recognized by the President for its achievements.
The tour of the East Wing included stops in several rooms. SU visited the East Room, Blue Room, Red Room and the State Dining Room where Bush entertains foreign heads of state. The Orange walked the Cross Hall, a broad hallway that is part of the first floor of the residence. It features the Vermeil Room, which houses gilt silver tableware and portraits of American First Ladies. The Cross Hall is also home to the family theater where the President often rehearses his speeches. The Cross Hall is 80 feet long and leads out to the Rose Garden and to the West Wing.
Following the tour, SU captains Mike Leveille (Delmar, N.Y.), Evan Brady (Ridgewood, N.J.) and Kyle Guadagnolo (Jordan, N.Y.) presented Bush with two lacrosse sticks. One was dyed red, white and blue and other was dyed orange and blue. The Orange then posed for a team picture with the President.
Out on the South Lawn, Leveille and the captains from the other NCAA Championship teams, joined Bush on the dais as he congratulated them and welcomed them all to the White House.
Syracuse tied a school record, winning 16 games in 2008 on its way to its NCAA-record 10th national title. The Orange defeated Johns Hopkins, 13-10, on Memorial Day to claim the championship.
