COLD SPRING HARBOR, N.Y. - Syracuse midfielder Josh Amidon (Lafayette, N.Y.) tallied a goal to help lead the 2008 U.S. Under-19 men's lacrosse team to an 11-9 victory against a Long Island All-Star team on Sunday, June 8 at Cold Spring Harbor (N.Y.) High School. Amidon was one of eight U.S. players to find the scoring column.
The game was the first of five exhibition games for the U.S. team before it opens play in the International Lacrosse Federation (ILF) U-19 World Championship on July 3 in British Columbia, Canada.
Andrew Feinberg, Jack McBride, and Matt MacKrides each scored two goals as the U.S. team started slowly, falling behind 3-0 early in the game. The score was tied 6-6 at the half before the U.S. team blanked the Long Island team 3-0 in the third quarter to pull away.
Feinberg, one of three players competing for the final roster spot on the team, also added an assist to lead Team USA in scoring. Feinberg was the New England Rookie of the Year at Brown this spring. Long Island was led by a pair of Penn freshmen - Corey Winkoff had three goals and Al Kohart had two goals.
The U.S. team continues its exhibition schedule next weekend with a game against the New Jersey All-Stars on Saturday night (June 14) at Bridgewater-Raritan (N.J.) High School.
