
Men's Basketball BIG EAST Opponents Unveiled

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Syracuse men’s basketball team will play home-and-home series against 2008 NCAA participants Georgetown and Villanova, as well as Rutgers, in BIG EAST Conference play this winter. The league announced the home/away conference opponents for each of its teams on Wednesday, July 2. Dates and times for these games are expected to be announced in September.
In addition to the three home-and-home series, the Orange will host Cincinnati (CBI), DePaul, Louisville (NCAA), Notre Dame (NCAA), Seton Hall and West Virginia (NCAA) this season. Syracuse’s road slate includes games at Connecticut (NCAA), Marquette (NCAA), Pittsburgh (NCAA), Providence, St. John’s and USF.

The BIG EAST is in its fourth year of a 16-team configuration and for the second time since Cincinnati, DePaul, Louisville and Marquette as members, each squad will play an 18-game conference schedule. Teams will meet 12 opponents once and three opponents twice (home and away).
Ten of 16 BIG EAST squads earned postseason invitations in 2007-08 (8 NCAA, 1 NIT, 1 CBI). A year ago the Orange played home-and-home with Georgetown, Villanova and USF. The decisions regarding repeat opponents are based on natural interest, geography, rivalries, television contractual obligations and competitive balance.
