SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Midfielder Josh Amidon (Lafayette, N.Y.) and longstick midfielder Joel White (Cortland, N.Y.) will help defend the gold for Team USA at the U-19 International Lacrosse Federation (ILF) World Championship. The tournament gets underway Thursday, July 3 and the Red, White and Blue will take on the Iroquois Nationals in its opening contest at 4 p.m. PST.
The ILF World Championship will run from July 3-12, 2008 in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. The U.S. team is the five-time defending ILF U-19 champion with a 29-0 all-time record in U-19 international play.
Team USA completed a five-game exhibition schedule in June, competing on both coasts, in preparation for the tournament. The U-19 men won four of its five exhibition matches.
Amidon and White were both key components in the Orange’s run to the 2008 NCAA title. Amidon netted six points (5g, 1a) and received several runs in the team’s defensive midfield. White was the squad’s top longstick middie. He ranked third on the Orange with 63 ground balls and also scored three goals.
