What was your 'welcome to college football' moment?
It was my first practice in shells. We were kind of having a scrimmage, so, I'm going after a linebacker and he was just so fast I missed him and ended up falling and scraped my whole leg. Just all scraped up … that was definitely my 'welcome to college football' moment.
What goes through your head when you and your teammates are going through your pre-game routine?
I'm thinking of the opponent and what they'll be doing. I'm trying to remember what we learned in practice that week and what to expect. Just try and concentrate only on that.
Do opposing defensive linemen talk a lot during the game?
They talk a lot, but sometimes you don't even understand what they're saying. Most of the time, the defense is just talking gibberish. Most of the time, they're just talking to themselves because they're trying to get down what they need to do. Sometimes they're more messed up than you'd think, though.
What Syracuse University class has taught you the most?
My favorite class was probably philosophy 191. The teacher is interesting and engaging. He used music during class to get the point across when he was trying to teach and it actually made a lot of sense.
Who in your life has given you the most valuable ‘life lesson’?
It would be my grandmother. I've lived with her my whole life and she taught me the virtues of perseverance and consistency. You must keep going, but you also must be consistent in what you do.
Five years after graduating from Syracuse I will be …
Either hopefully in the NFL or graduated from dental school.

Advice to first-year teammates?
Go to class. Everything can sneak up on you. Make sure to keep up on your assignments.
How do you maintain your focus on training camp and not look ahead to the season-opener at Northwestern on August 30th?
It's tough, but you have to make sure you're right before you can worry about someone else.
