Senior cornerback Ryan Howard his in position to be Syracuse's primary punt returner when the Orange opens the season at Northwestern on August 30 (12:00 p.m., ESPN2). The Carson, Calif. native is also battling for playing time as a cornerback for the SU defense. In 2007, Howard returned three punts for 32 yards against South Florida. "I believe that Ryan has showed us that he has skills and it's really a matter of that unit of taking a certain amount of pride of really working for him and trying to do what they can to spring him," said head coach Greg Robinson. "I'm looking forward to Ryan getting his turns."

"We have a lot of work still ahead of us, but I've been pleased with the progress we're making," Robinson said. "There is still work to be done."
Syracuse's 2008 season and individual tickets are available online and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (1-888-DOMETIX). Fans who have ordered 2008 season tickets should watch their mailboxes as tickets will be mailed this week.
Prior to the opener, all Orange football fans will have an opportunity to see the team in action on Monday, August 18 at the annual Fanfest. There will also be activities for the whole family, including an autograph session at the end of practice from 8:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. and the football team will take the field at 5:45 p.m. Admission is free.
The event at the Les Vielbig Track (next to Coyne Field and the Schwartzwalder and Katz football practice fields) will feature Otto and the Orange cheerleaders, inflatable “jumpies” for kids, retail tables featuring Syracuse merchandise and food vendors. Orange fans can pick up their annual poster, schedule card and team roster before the first game, along with gathering membership information for the ‘Cuse Kids Club. Season tickets and individual game tickets will be available for purchase.

It would have to be my first practice and the tempo of it and the way the coaches hounded me to finish.
What did it mean to you to have former SU standout and NFL fullback Kyle Johnson speak with the team on Thursday?
It always means a lot when former Syracuse players come back to talk. It brings a sense of family back here to camp.
What, is the most challenging part of playing cornerback?
If you mess up, everybody notices and everybody's looking at you.
What is it like being one of two guys on the roster to bring some California flavor to Central New York?
It's unique, man. It's unique.
Who in your life has given you the most valuable ‘life lesson’?
My Dad's always told me to hold on and be strong. That's something I always look to.

Advice to first-year teammates?
Stay focused and make sure you're getting your school work done. That's the most important thing.
