What was your ‘Welcome to college football moment?
My welcome to college football moment had to be at South Florida my freshman year. We had an all-go four vertical call and I threw it right to a linebacker for the pick.
What did it mean to you to have former SU standout and NFL fullback Kyle Johnson speak with the team last week?
It's a great thing every time the pro guys come back and address the team. It really gives us some energy going out to practice knowing one of the former SU greats is out there watching us. We try to measure up to what they did in the past and we want to make them proud just for the fact that we know how hard they worked to get this program up to the top and keep it at the top. We're trying to get back to that spot, so every time they come out here, we want to give it our best and show them that we're working hard to get this program back to where it's supposed to be.
Which receiver do you feel will break through this season?
I really think all of them are. Obviously, they don't have a ton of catches or a ton of experience right now in games, but I've seen what they can do in the offseason in regard to summer workouts and fall camp by going down the field and making plays. We're not just going to be throwing the ball to one guy, so I think all of them are going to have a breakout season and put up some numbers that they haven't in the past and surprise some people.
Is there a professional quarterback you try to model yourself after or look up to more than anyone else?
I don't know that there's really a quarterback I try and model myself after. I just try and go out and get the ball to our playmakers. If there was a football player I look up to, my idol is Ray Lewis with me being from Baltimore and everything. His work ethic and tenacity on the field and his leadership qualities are second to none, so I try and model myself after those qualities.
How has this preaseon camp has gone?
This camp had definitely been different from the past two camps. Obviously, I'm more experienced so I have a bit of a different perspective on things, but I think this offense is really coming along and this defense is playing their guts out. We're all just going out there each and every day to work as hard as we can so we can get this offense where it's supposed to be.
Five years after graduating from Syracuse I will be …
I hope to be on Wall Street, probably. I'm getting a finance degree at Syracuse and hopefully will have a couple internships lined up for this upcoming summer.
Advice to first-year teammates?
Just go out there and work as hard as you can and get after that playbook and study it as much as possible. You're not going to be on the field if you don't know what you're doing. First thing, study your playbook and know your plays. Second thing, go all out and if you make a mistake, make it full speed.
How do you maintain your focus on training camp and not look ahead to the season-opener at Northwestern on August 30th?
It's pretty easy, actually. The coaches do a great job of keeping us focused on one play at a time and one practice at a time. I'm going out there every day and trying to beat our defense and trying to put our offense in the best position possible to run each and every play to the best of our ability.

What do you think about Brett Favre getting traded to the Jets?
I'm more of a players' guy than an organization guy. He retired in the first place, realizing he didn't want to play anymore at the time and then he changed his mind afterwards. I think it worked out for everybody. Packers got what they wanted and Favre is finally able to play on a team.

Other than football, what sport do you think you could dominate at Syracuse?
I don't know about dominate, but I'm a pretty good swimmer and I'd be decent at baseball.
