
U.S. Opens Olympic Play

QINHUANGDAO, China -- The U.S. Women's National Team opened play at the 2008 Olympics against Norway on Wednesday. All of the scoring came in the first five minutes of action as Norway defeated the U.S., 2-0. The Americans will face Japan in its next match on Saturday, August 9 at 5 a.m. ET.
Syracuse head coach Phil Wheddon serves as the goalkeeper coach for the U.S. Team, which is the defending Olympic champion.
Norway scored the game's first goal on a header by Leni Larsen Kaurin in the second minute of action. Two minutes later Norway scored again as Melissa Wiik curved a shot inside the left post.
Norway leads Group G with three points, while Japan and New Zealand have one point each.
Saturday's game between the U.S. and Japan will be televised live on USA Network and the NBC Olympic Soccer Channel.
